I'm Mary Read, and that's all ye
need to know !!!!! I'm always in the background, sizin'
up my quarry. I fear nothin', and no one !!!!
I am Ravan McElderry, one of the few
pirates that actually lives on an island, ( Marathon, in
the Florida Keys ). I am the Mary Read character not
by choice, I was asked to portray her, a couple of
times, the character sort of became a force of its own,
and took over.
A true historical character is
difficult to do, as you have to develop and stay with
believable personality traits in a historical
context. I have pirated the East Coast from Virginia
to Key West since 1998, been put on trial, interviewed for
an English newspaper, been in a German TV production, and
been pictured in books. I feel like I always was
Mary Read in my heart with or without the garb and
weapons.
