Arthur Whittam
aka. Cascabel is highly experienced as a character actor in pirate
festivals from Key West to New York. He is a regular participant at
Pirates In Paradise in Key West; the North Carolina Blackbeard
Festival; and the Hampton Virginia Blackbeard Festival plus others.
Cascabel has costume variations to portray pirates all the way from
a nasty looking common deck hand all the way up to an extremely
glitzy pirate captain in lace and brocade, or anywhere in between
the two extremes. He Carries fully functional flintlock weapons and
has over 30 years experience in the care, use and repair of all
types of muzzle loading guns.
Cascabel usually portrays a friendly scoundrel for the entertainment
of the children with just a hint of treachery to keep things
interesting. He especially enjoys being a "street character" for the
entertainment of the public, and hands out very nice "gold" coins to
the children. Cascabel is not so much a "re-enactor" as an
entertainer, to him, character acting is much more satisfying than
simply standing around looking authentic. He has participated in
several live re-enactments of pirate trials, and performed in TV
productions both in the United States and Europe. Cascabel also
performs live TV promotional spots to advertise pirate events and
frequently does radio announcements. Cascabel (Arthur lives in the
