The range of
people who enjoy their love of pirates by dressing the part
and sharing their fun with others ranges from the period
enthusiast with their accurate dress and gear to those who
just like to have fun be it Halloween or a special pirate
event.
There are many
opportunities to play the part of the pirate. Multitudes of
fairs and special events across the country welcome Pirate
Reenactors to their fold. Several local events have
opportunities for you and your pirate persona. Many give
lectures and demonstrations at schools, libraries and clubs.
These events are a great way to recruit future pirates for
your pirate group.
Our group, The St
Augustine Social Society of Swashbucklers, Pirates and
Buccaneers dress up and go to local restaurants and play the
rowdy pirates. We are in a tourist area and the restaurant
owners love the entertainment we provide to their customers.
Parades are a
wonderful venue for pirates to display their group all decked
out in their pirate gear.
Take advantage of
every opportunity that comes available. We joined another
pirate group and celebrate “Talk Like A Pirate Day” in the old
section of St. Augustine by stopping passers by and trying to
get them to talk like a pirate, then we give them some
plunder. We also used the POTC movie premiers to have a pirate
party in a local pub before going to see the movie.
We pirates are
cunning and inventive. I am sure if you look around your area
and give it some thought you will find a reason to dress up
and play pirate.
