Falcon's Revenge

A long time fan of Forester, O'Brian, Kent & the British Navy; Mr. O'Steen has finally embarked on his own writing career.  Considering the fine start he has made in Falcon's Revenge; I think he has the making of a fine author.

Joseph O’Steen is an avid student of the British Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars, which led to the creation of the Nathan Beauchamp series.
" I have attempted to provide the reader with a fast-paced, action-filled sea story," says O’Steen.
And in this he is successful, as Lieutenant Nathan Beauchamp makes his debut.

 George Jepson

Joseph L. O'Steen is a born storyteller whose writing style reminds me strongly of C.S. Forester, with its combination of simplicity and (when his characters speak) courtliness. The book starts off slowly, as characters are introduced and background is provided; but that is acceptable in this genre, and things soon take off and then keep moving.

Pursuit of Honor

Falcon's Revenge is the first book in a series of six that will follow Nathan Beauchamp through his naval career and his fight against French privateers and Napoleon Bonaparte. It shall be interesting to watch Nate mature and aspire to greater heights as he matches wits with formidable foes to come.

The author, Joseph L. O’Steen, has crafted a book rich in setting that gives enough detail about life on a British war ship to bring the reader on board and sail him through realistic action.

This is a fast-paced naval adventure that combines suspense with intrigue and romance.  It is not meant for those readers well versed in naval yarns of the Napoleonic Era.  Rather it introduces new readers to the world of wooden sailing ships and life in the Royal Navy.  The pirates play a minor role in this tale, but the spies and traitors keep readers interested from start to finish.  A good read in spite of the lack of copy editing.

The realities of life on a 19th Century sailing vessel come across vividly as this sea story unfolds. These details drive the plot; they aren't woven in for added interest, which should make them accessible to readers just starting in the genre made famous by C.S. Forester.

Author Nina Osier

The great thing about Nathan Beauchamp is that he is so damnably human.  The great thing about Joseph O’Steen is that he is a writer who understands not only the sea, but human nature itself.
